This goes well with almost everything- be it tandoori chicken, kebabs, fish fry or even with daal. I love this with my mother’s butter chicken, mutton curry and prawn malai curry recipe. Whenever we have guests over, we make this little salad to go with the Indian dishes to add freshness and lightness to the otherwise heavy Indian dishes. This simple green salad recipe is simpler than what its name suggests and you can use anything you like- onions, cucumbers, radish, carrots, tomatoes, coriander leaves and absolutely anything! The key to this salad is the perfect balance of salt and lime- too much of it can make the salad sour and bitter.
INGREDIENTS:
1. ½ cup onions chopped into cubes
2. ½ cup cucumber sliced into cubes
3. ½ cup tomatoes, chopped into cubes
4. ½ cup green capsicum chopped into cubes
5. ¼ cup coriander leaves plucked
6. Lime juice, about 1 lime squeezed
7. Salt to taste
METHOD:
This really doesn’t need steps. Just add all the ingredients in a bowl- onions, cucumber, tomatoes, green capsicum and coriander leaves. Add 3-4 tsp of lime juice and pinch of salt and mix well. The key to this dish is to taste as you go on mixing lime juice. Do not overdo the lime juice. Keep it simple and fresh.
TIPS: Serve with kebabs, daal or curries!
